Calligraphy is a visual art related to writing. It is the design and execution of lettering with a broad tip instrument, brush, among other writing instruments. A contemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as, "the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious, and skillful manner"

Modern calligraphy ranges from functional inscriptions and designs to fine-art pieces where the letters may or may not be readable. Classical calligraphy differs from typography and non-classical hand-lettering, though a calligrapher may practice both.

Hand Lettering New Idea - Inspiration and Ideas For You!

Hand Lettering New Idea can often be confused with typography and calligraphy, and understandably so. The differences between the three are slight, yet important. Calligraphy is writing with a single pass to create written art, hand lettering is a composition created with drawn letters, and typography uses prefabricated and designed letters.

Hand lettering projects are used in various ways. Some use it for crafting or scrapbooking while others use it for designing logos. Essentially, hand lettering is the illustration of letters that come together to create a single, unified piece. If you were to take each letter out separately to create an alphabet, it would be quite the mismatch.

Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed. The arrangement of type involves selecting typefaces, point sizes, line lengths, line-spacing (leading), and letter-spacing (tracking), and adjusting the space between pairs of letters (kerning[1]). The term typography is also applied to the style, arrangement, and appearance of the letters, numbers, and symbols created by the process. Type design is a closely related craft, sometimes considered part of typography; most typographers do not design typefaces, and some type designers do not consider themselves typographers. Typography also may be used as a decorative device, unrelated to communication of information.

Hand lettering requires making the words larger and more ornate and organizing them to fit within the frame. Since there is little room for error, hand lettering and sign painting demand perfection, which comes with practice, time and effort. However, once learned, this useful skill is ideal for a multitude of projects and undertakings.
